With two major forays into historic racing already this year - at Le Mans and Silverstone - it was Peter's turn to fly the flag for Strakka Racing when he took the team's 1966 Ferrari P3 to a pair of second-place finishes in Hungary. In two rounds of the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge, he turned history on its head by outpacing a string of newer machines.

Consistently quickest in Free Practice - by over a second - and narrowly pipped for pole - by less then seven hundredths of a second - Peter was justifiably confident of a good result in the Misano Six Hours. For the first half of the race it couldn't have gone better, with Nick handing over from second and Peter working through to the lead, but that was before fate stepped in . . .

Peter returns to Le Mans for a Classic weekend

In June Peter was thundering around the Le Mans circuit in a state-of-the-art Aston Martin DBR9 - the pinnacle of GT1 racing in 2008. He was at it again last weekend, but this time the cars he raced were very different: the Le Mans-winning Aston Martin DBR1 of 1959, and a pair of stunning Ferraris from a few years later. Marginally slower they may have been, but Peter relished the opportunity none the less.

The Strakka Racing BMW M3, co-driven by team regulars Peter Hardman and Nick Leventis, and joined for this one-off endurance event by fellow Briton Christian Vann, worked through from fifth on the grid to lead the BTCS Spa 12 Hours by the half-way stage. Up against a daunting array of specialised “silhouette” and touring cars, the M3 was the front-running conventional car in a race highlighted by major incidents, accidents and mechanical problems.

Propshaft Failure Sidelines Vitaphone Aston Martin

The kind of mechanical failure that simply cannot be anticipated ended the race for Vitaphone's Aston Martin DBR9, co-driven by Peter Hardman, fellow Strakka team-mate Nick Leventis, and Vitaphone regular Alexandre Negrao. It was a disappointing end to what had been a promising run, but the trio acquitted themselves well and made an excellent first impression on their Aston Martin Le Mans debut.

With scrutineering successfully completed, the three Vitaphone Aston Martin drivers for this year's Le Mans 24 Hours are looking forward to the start of qualifying, and coming to trerms with the awesome Le Mans circuit. Peter has raced in the 24 Hours before, for Chamberlain Lotus back in 1994, but his two young co-drivers are Le Mans "rookies", with much to learn, but enthusiasm and skill aplenty.

Peter had to delve deep into his vast well of experience to make the most of appalling conditions during the official Le Mans test on Sunday 1st June. With the responsibility of being first out in the Vitaphone Aston Martin DBR9, it fell upon Peter to face the heaviest rain. In the end, the day went well, and all three drivers completed their mandatory ten-lap minimum run.
